In the early 1900's there were six men that left Burleson County and WALKED to Brazos County to find better living conditions for their families. They were George Ford, William Flowers (brothers), John Harris (brother-in-law of George and William), Manual Graves (cousin of George and William), Lee Mallard (friend) and Gus Mallard (son of Lee).
Williams Flowers and Manual Graves found work in Wellborn, Texas. The other four found work in the Roans Chapel Area on the farm of Coon Williams. Mr. Williams provided wagons for these men to return to Burleson County to move their families to Brazos County.
Turk Ranch was purchased by George Ford Sr. and Victoria, and it was the place where all of their kids were raised. Turk Ranch is still in existence today, and is in the process of being restored. includes what they do, how long they’ve been at it, and what got them to where they are.
Julia Williams (Geroge's sister), and George all purchased farm land in the same vicinity in Brazos County and were neighbors until their deaths. Two of the farms still remain in the family today (Turk Ranch).
